The craze for industrialisation has swept India. The central and state governments are all following this trend, throwing caution to air. Prime agricultural lands are being offered for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) leaving the labourers working on these lands no where to go. This SEZing of lands reached its maximum when the West Bengal government alloted fertile agricultural land to Tata Motors for its small car unit to be set up in Singur. There were protests in Singur and bandhs were also called. Mamata Banerjee went on indefinite hunger strike which lasted for 25 days. She withdrew her fast after the Prime Minister wrote to her. But none of these helped. The people's fight against SEZ continues...
