Manipur Assembly Election
Five states are going to hold its crucial assembly election in the year 2012 and Manipur is one among them.

The poll date has been scheduled to be held on Jan 28 while election counting will be done on Mar 4. This time it would be an acide test for Okram Ibobi Singh who helped Indian National Congress (INC) to grab power in the state government for last two consecitive years.

The main opposition party alliance consist Manipur People’s Party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Janata Dal United (JD-U).

Election officials announced that Two hundred and seventy nine candidates will be contested in the upcoming crucial election. The announcement surfaced following the minute scrutiny and withdrawal of papers by contestants.

Militants attack Manipur minister's house

Imphal, Jan 1: Unidentified militants attacked the private house of Manipur's Health Minister L Jayenta Kumar in Imphal West district by exploding a grenade which injured a passer-by, official sources said. The militants lobbed the grenade at around 7 pm last night when the minister was outside the house campaigning for the forthcoming assembly elections on January 28. A woman identified as Memcha Devi who was standing around Kumar's house was injured besides and two vehicles parked in nearby were damaged,.....

New Delhi, Dec 24:The Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi announced the dates of upcoming assembly elections in five states- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, Manipur.
