After coming to power, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday made his first speech in Haryana while laying the foundation stone of the Kaithal-Rajasthan national highway (NH-65). With his speech the Prime Minister has set the tone for Haryana assembly polls, due in October this year.
While delivering his speech Narendra Modi apparently made his first poll campaign for the BJP in election bound Haryana. BJP's poster boy picked the right nerves by highlighting two major problems the state faces i.e. corruption and slow development. Modi indirectly acknowledged the voters in Haryana for voting for BJP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. The BJP bagged seven of ten parliamentary seats in the LS polls.
"This is my first official engagement in Haryana after becoming the Prime Minister. I am thankful to you for the love and affection bestowed on me. I promise that I will return, with interest, the love. I will deliver on development," the PM said.
Development mantra for Haryana
In the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Modi, former Gujarat CM, promised the people that he will develop Haryana, which has tremendous potential, the way he developed Gujarat.
With his high octane speech Modi has sounded the poll bugle in Haryana
"Let's take the mantra of development to every corner of the Haryana. The large gathering here indicates the trust people of the country have on development; it has become a priority for the common man. The world is moving ahead and we also have to move forward and development is the only way," said the Prime Minister while addressing the massive gathering.
Silences critics for targetting him over corruption issue
The PM also silenced his critics for accusing him of not saying anything on corruption during his Independence Day speech.
"Friends, I had spoken my heart out during my Independence Day speech. But some people criticised my speech saying I didn't say anything about corruption. I had said that we need to move away from "mera kya" (What about me, how will I gain?). 'Mera Kya' and 'Mujhe Kya' have ruined us, we need a corruption free nation. Don't you all want to root out corruption?" he said.
"Corruption is a dangerous disease, deadlier than cancer and can destroy the country. I can feel that the country is not ready to live with it any longer," he further said.
Woos Haryana farmers
Ruing the fact that despite taking the lead in feeding the people of the entire country Haryana farmers have not got adequate monetary reward. He also announced that his government will soon launch "Prime Minister Gram Krishi Sichai Yojana" for the benefit of farmers.
"Farmers of Haryana fill coffers of the country with food grains. But our famers are left empty handed. Farmers here have never stepped back in feeding the hungry people of the country. Like Vajpayee, our government will start "Prime Minister Gram Krishi Sichaee Yojana". Some central schemes have been lying incomplete, I assure you I will try and complete them," Modi was quoted saying.
Thus, Narendra Modi made most out of his visit by silencing his critics and indirectly promoting his party at the gathering. The speech made by the Prime Minister has already stirred a storm in Haryana with Hooda blaming the former for transforming a government programme into a party rally. But, Narendra Modi, with his high octane speech, has sounded the poll bugle in Haryana.
