Saina ousted, India's challenge ends in Japan Open badminton

New Delhi, Sep 24: Saina Nehwal was stunned by Germany's Juliane Schenk in the women's singles semifinals as India's campaign came to an end in the Japan Open Super Series badminton tournament in Tokyo today (Sept 24).

Fourth seeded Saina lost 19-21 10-21 to her eighth-seeded rival in a contest lasting 39 minutes. In the closely-fought first game, Saina and Schenk went neck and neck all through but at 19-19, the German nosed ahead to go one up on her more fancied.....

Saina sails to quarters of Japan Open, others disappoint

New Delhi, Sep 22: Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal emerged as the lone survivor for India at the Japan Open, defeating Mingtian Fu of Singapore in straight-games to reach the quarterfinals of the women's singles competition at Tokyo today (Sept 22).

Fourth seed Saina took 33 minutes to beat Mingtian 21-17 21-16. She will take on Juan GU of Singapore on Friday.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist P Kashyap played his heart out before going down 15-21 21-6 18-21 to sixth.....
