The year's worst tragedy for the worshippers, on 14 Jan 2011, a stampede caused due to road accident in the dense forest, that claimed more than 104 Hindu pilgrims dead and over 60 injured at Pulmedu in Kerala's Idukki district.

A bus collided with a jeep and went out of control, crushing people walking nearby. Panicked pilgrims rushed forward that led to the stampede.

Pathanamthitta, Nov 15: Sabarimala, the holy abode of Lord Ayyappa, is all set for the annual two-month long 'Mandalam-Makaravilakku' pilgrimage season. The Lord Ayyappa temple would be opened for the 'Mandalam' festival at 1730 hrs on November 16. 'Melsanthi' (Chief Priest) E Eswaran Nampoothiri would open the sanctum sanctorum and light the ceremonial lamps in the presence of 'Tantri' Kantaru Maheswararu. There would be no 'pooja' on the opening day. The installation ceremony of the new 'Melsanthis' of the Ayyappa temple.....

NSG commandos deployed at Sabarimala

Pathanamthitta, Dec 5: The National Security Guards (NSG) commandos were deployed at the Sabarimala Sannidhanam today as part of strengthening of security in view of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary tomorrow. According to police, besides 30 NSG Commandos, Bomb squads and Shadow Patrol teams were deployed at vulnerable points on the premises of Ayyappa temple, Malikappuram Bhagavatty temple and Pampa Ganapathy temple. Police personnel from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka also joined the special security team. Pilgrims would not be.....

Sabarimala abode of religious harmony

Kochi, Jan 12 : Thousands of hindu devotees who visit Sabrimala temple round off their pilgrimage after a visit to the famous Ermuley Petta Thullal mosque at Kottayam district of Kerala.
