This year, some major train mishaps have frightened the common people. On Jan 1 Amritsar-Sealdah Akal Takht Express, Mumbai - Delhi Rajdhani Express caught fire near Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh.

On Jul 31, Over three people were killed and 200 injured when some coaches of Guwahati Bangalore Express derail and hit by another train in Malda district, West Bengal. Chennai Beach-Vellore local hit the Arakonam-Katpadi passenger train that claimed 9 dead and 100 injured on Sep 13. Fire gutted in two coaches of Howrah-Dehradun train, killing seven people on Nov 22.

Probe into Arakkonam train mishap begins; driver questioned

Chennai, Sep 16: The departmental probe into the Arakkonam rail mishap that claimed 10 lives began here today (Sept 16), with the recording of statements including that of MEMU driver Rajkumar, whose actions have come under the scanner after the preliminary report suggested "human error".

"We have already seen him (Rajkumar) in the hospital. He is injured, he is able to speak partly," Commissioner of Railway Safety, S K Mittal, said.

"All the evidences will be examined in proper.....

7 dead, 85 injured in train collision near Chennai

Chennai, Sept 14: At least seven persons were killed and 85 others injured when a passenger train from Chennai rammed into a stationary train near Arakkonam, about 75 km from here, late evening on Tuesday.

IG North Zone Syleendra Babu said seven persons were killed in the collision that saw both the trains coming on the same track. The toll may go up.

Militant attack caused goods train derailment in Assam?

Kokrjhar, Aug 1: Yet another train mishap has occurred and authorities suspect it to be a act of sabotage by militants. The incident happened in western Assam"s Kokrajhar district that led to the derailment of a goods train. Railway tracks in two places between Salakati and Fakiragram were found to be damaged.

Shivpuri, Sep 20: The death toll reached to 15 and 40 other people were injured in the train mishap that took place in Madhya Pradesh on Sep 20.According the railway source, the Gwalior Intercity was at the station when the goods train collided with it.Two relief trains have already reached the spot for rescue and relief work.Early information revealed that it appeared to be a case of negligence as the two trains were on the same track......
