Joplin is a city in southern Jasper County and northern Newton County in the southwestern corner of the US state of Missouri, in which a deadly tornado struck on May 20, 2011.

Joplin tornado ripped through a hospital and killed many across the city. The final death toll in Joplin was 116 making it the deadliest tornado in nearly 60 years.

Wellington, Dec 23: A series of strong earthquakes struck the New Zealand city of Christchurch today (Dec 23), rattling buildings, sending goods tumbling from shelves and prompting terrified holiday shoppers to flee into the streets. There was no tsunami alert issued and the city appeared to have been spared major damage. One person was injured at a city mall and was taken to a hospital, and four people had to be rescued after being trapped by a rock fall, Christchurch police.....

6.5 tremor hits southern Mexico, 3 dead

Mexico, Dec 11: A 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck in Mexico's western Guerrero state on Saturday night and killed atleast three people, officials claimed. The major tremor caused panic in the national capital.The tremor hit the capital on Saturday night at about 166 kilometres southwest of Mexico city and the epicentre was located at 133 kilometres north of the large beach resort city of Acapulco."No major damage reported at the time, however the reports are preliminary.
