{image-18-ballerina-wall-street-bull.jpg news.oneindia.in}Inspired by the Arab uprising in Tunisia and Egypt, there is yet another massive protests brewing that can soon gather force and this time it is in the very seat of economic super power Wall Street. Home to the largest stock exchange in the world, the New York Stock Exchange, the Wall Street protests are slowly gathering momentum with reverberations of the stir spreading to other continents as well.

The protests aptly titled 'Occupy Wall Street' was the brainchild of Kalle Lasn, who is the editor of a Vancouver-based magazine called AdBusters. The movement was planned in this newsroom in Canada, with the first visual representation of the protests being depicted in the form of a poster that showed a ballerina perched atop the symbolic Wall Street Bull. The background shows people wearing gas masks and the atmosphere enveloped in heavy smoke. The poster also introduced the #OccupyWallStreet hash tag, that is slowly becoming a war cry for economic justice in Corporate America.

People were asked to assemble at the Wall Street on Sept 17 with the leaderless protest and resistance gathering steam with every passing day. AdBusters, also an NGO declared on the protests and called it a, "people powered movement … with an encampment in the financial district of New York City. Inspired by the Egyptian Tahrir Square uprising, the revolution in Tunisia and the Spanish acampadas, we vow to end the monied corruption of our democracy."

With what started as a gathering of a group of men and women slowly catapulted to a movement so powerful that the world is witnessing the power of peaceful protests. The gathering have termed themselves the representatives of 99% of the world"s population who wants to put an end to the greed and corruption of the wealthiest 1% of America.

With the movement slowly spreading to Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia, the world is agitating following the uncertain times in terms of the recession fears looming large in the minds of the middle-class populace who toil to make both ends meet.

The parallel movement that is gaining momentum is the We Are The 99% movement with their mission statement being that 'we will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.'
