Following the footsteps of the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, the union territory of Pondicherry also saw a victorious AIADMK emerging in the Assembly Polls in 2011.

The AIADMK alliance in Puducherry tasted sweet success winning a total of 20 seats. Though Congress termed the loss as "people`s desire for a change", many felt that the poor governance and scam hit ally in DMK brought the government down. 61-year old N Rangasamy took on as the 18th Chief Minister of the tiny Union Territory.
