Plant saplings near you house, if there are compounds. Also make sure to fight again cutting grown up grand old trees for unnecessary things. If a tree is cut we must plant atleast five more in its place. The city of Bangalore which I live in, is a good example of greenery, huge trees decorating the roadside is a pleasure to see in. That too after few days of heavy rain, their deep colour is back, which give cooling effect to our eyes.
Save every drop of water. In 20th century if war was fought for oil, in 21 century it will be fought for drinking water. The alarming rate at which the ground water level is falling, is a wake up call to all. Instead of digging more and more bore wells and squeezing out the reserve water Mother Earth is saving for us, lets take the initiative of collecting rain water.
Rain Water Harvesting is a way to capture the rain water when it rains, store that water above ground or charge the underground and use it later. This happens naturally in open rural areas. But in congested, over-paved metropolitan cities, we need to create methods to capture the rain water. A simple method is Roof rainwater collection. This is ideal for cities were even a single piece of land is crowded with building.
If we put in little effort to harvest rain water, the result will yield in enough water for household activities. Likewise another major initiative we all should takecare is of dumping garbage in public, specially plastic garbage. After having a toffee, or a roll or after drinking a can of pepsi or coke, please make sure that you are not throwing them in a near by drain or on road side. Take the small pain of dumping them in the near by garbage box. Keep your city clean, the way we all keep our houses clean!
These are little thoughts of mine to save our beloved Earth Mama. On this Environment Day, I pledge, whatever little contribution I can do to save this Planet, will do.
Save Earth Mama!
