Projecting young Rahul Gandhi was another major point for the victory of Congress. More over we have to accept the organisational work done by Rahul in Uttar Pradesh for the last three/four years. Through out his campaign Rahul was stressing the youth power of India. At least a set of youth
responded to that positively.
Interestingly BJP was targeting 35 percent youth voters of India and continuously using novel techniques to reach them. But on the contrary they were projecting an Octogenarian PM candidate LK Advani to represent the 35 percent youth of India.
National Rural Employment Guarantee SchemeThe National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme according to the Indian legislation enacted on August 25, 2005 provides a legal guarantee for one hundred days of employment in every financial year to adult members of any rural household willing to do public work-related unskilled manual work at the statutory minimum wage.
The whole idea of this scheme was bettering the purchasing power of the people who are under below poverty line in rural India. For the financial year 2006-2007 budgetary support for NREGS was Rs 11300 crores. In April 2008 NREGA expanded to cover the entire India. During 2007-08 about 9,79,000 house holds were benefited out of this scheme.
Like the farm loan waiver scheme through too Congress made invasions into the rural poor people and exchanged that in to votes. Even though the idea of NREGS was meliorating the purchasing power of the people, Congress' ulterior motive was acquiring vote banks from the un organised rural work force. Rural folks were ready to evince their passion towards Congress for the NREGS scheme. That was expressed through the
EVMs in the polling booths of India.
And thus the victory of Congress.
