Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Ananth Kumar not choosing a side in the ongoing BJP crisis in Karnataka has stirred a storm of speculations that he is the man behind the revolt led by the Reddy brothers to dethrone the Chief Minister, BS Yeddyurappa.
The apparent stance of Ananth Kumar, who is an extremely influential man and is part of the BJP high command, to not side with any faction in the party has been widely questioned.
It is an established fact that it is the lust for power that is driving the dissent led by G Janardhana Reddy, G Karunakara Reddy and B Sreeramulu.
However, Ananth Kumar's alleged involvement in 'hatching the controversy' with the rebels is also being seen as a move to gain power.
There are also reports that about a month ago Ananth Kumar held a mid-night meeting with speaker Jagadish Shettar and the Reddys where the coup against BSY began.
It is also worth mentioning that even though Ananth Kumar and BS Yeddyurappa are from the same party they have their differences.
Apart from the fact that Jagadish Shettar was pushed aside by just giving him the post of the speaker, the way Shobha Karandlaje is running the show does not fit in well with Ananth Kumar.
Shobha, a close associate of the Chief Minister and the only woman minister in the state cabinet is also being held responsible for the current crisis.
So with the Reddys' stubborn demand to remove BSY from the post can only have two outcomes. One being Jagadish Shettar would be given the post of Chief Minister which would be fine with Ananth Kumar.
In another possibility, Ananth Kumar hopes to gain from the fight leading to him being named the next Chief Minister.
