Osama: Former ISI chief lauds Pak

Bangalore, July 10: Former ISI chief Hamid Gul on Wednesday reportedly said that slain al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was not an enemy of Pakistan and lauded the latter's efforts in keeping him hidden for nine years. Gul said this in an exclusive interview to English news channel Times Now. Gul also described US President Barack Obama a murderer who lacked courage.

Recently, a report leaked the Pakistani authorities' collective failure in tracking Osama hiding in the country for nine years, creating much stir. The former ISI chief's defiance in the wake of the revelation is bound to cause more ripples.

Osama had reportedly entered Pakistan in 2002 after the US invaded Afghanistan in October 2001 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and remained there till May 2011 when US forces killed him at his compound in Abbottabad. Pakistani authorities had protested the US move, saying it was a violation of its sovereignty.
