Lucknow, March 5: Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias "Raja Bhaiya" is known to share close-ties with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his family. As Raja Bhaiya has been charged with the murder of a top cop in the state, the same "friend" of Yadav family has now become their headache.
Raja Bhaiya resigned from his post as state's Food and Civil Supplies Minister after he was charged with murder on Monday.
Raja Bhaiya has been booked for the brutal murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zia-ul-Haq. But, he is yet to be arrested.
Haq's wife Parveen Azad accused four associates of the minister - Gulshan Yadav (chairman, Kunda nagar panchayat), Hari Om Shankar Srivastava (Raja Bhaiya's representative), and Guddu Singh and Rohit Singh (drivers of the minister) - of being involved in her husband's murder.
"I will commit suicide if the CM does not come here and assure a CBI inquiry," threatened murdered cop's wife.
"Those guilty will not be spared, irrespective of their stature. We will recommend a CBI probe," said Akhilesh.
Under pressure, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has ordered a CBI probe into the murder case.
Already, two CBI probes are pending against Raja Bhaiya. Media reports say at present, Raja faces eight criminal cases (five of them heinous) including those for abduction, murder, attempt to murder, violence and land grabbing. Several criminal cases against him were withdrawn by the Mulayam Singh regime (2003-2007).
However, during Mayawati's regime in Uttar Pradesh, he was sent to jail under draconian POTA in November 2002.
