Shinde may apologise to BJP

New Delhi, Feb 12: Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who is also the leader in the Lok Sabha, is likely to tender an apology over his "Hindu terror" comment to the main opposition BJP to ensure that the crucial budget session of the Parliament starting later this month is not disrupted.

BJP sources said that the minister, whose remark that the BJP and RSS run terror camps drew flak from the saffron quarters recently, might express his regret in the next session. The BJP decided to boycott Shinde for his remark made at a party meeting and also filed a case against him.

The Congress-led UPA was worried that any turbulence in the House over the issue could hamper serious legislative work, particularly ahead of a series of state elections leading to the big poll next year. The opposition had crippled the parliamentary sessions last year by protesting on various issues, causing serious harm to the governance.

Sources said that Shinde had already written to Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on the issue in a bid to make the BJP soften its stand. The BJP top brass had met following Shinde's initiative and it is learnt that the BJP sent the letter back to the home minister asking him to add a line saying that he regretted for making such comment on Hindu terror and linking it with the BJP and RSS. Shinde reportedly wrote to Swaraj that he did not intend to say what had been implied by his comments. The BJP was not convinced, however.
