Delhi Braveheart scores 73% in exams

New Delhi, Jan 24: She was a woman who aspired to have a career of her own and help her two brothers get proper education in life. But unfortunately, her dreams were shattered on the fateful night of Dec 16, 2012 when the 23-year-old paramedical student was brutally gangraped by six men in a moving bus in the national capital. After fighting 13 days for her life, she died in a Singapore hospital on Dec 29, 2012.

The brutal incident shocked the entire nation. They came out on the streets to protest against the violence and demanded capital punishment for the rapists. Her parents and brothers remember the victim as a woman who was "full" of dreams and hardworking and dedicated student.

Her dedication bore fruits when her results were declared on Wednesday, Jan 23. She secured 72.7 per cent in the fourth year examination of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy course. The results were declared less than a month after her death by her institute Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand.

"She got 800 out of a total of 1100 marks," said the director of the Dehradun institute where the woman studied physiotherapy. He said her performance was "very good" in all subjects.

The mourning family of the victim were happy at the news of her results, but it was the sadness of losing their daughter which overshadowed their happiness. "The result is good. But the happiness that should be there is overshadowed by our sadness. I can only hope that my two other children are inspired by this to take the same path," her father told The Times of India.

"This clearly indicates she was a very hard-working student," said a teacher who didn't want to be named. "She was serious about a career in physiotherapy."
