Chennai, Jan 17: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi impressed people in Chennai with his message on Twitter greeting them on Thiru MGR's birthday.
Modi on Thursday, Jan 17 greeted all Chennaites who celebrated MGR's 96th birthday. The Gujarat seems to have enjoyed his visit to the city on the same day.
"In Chennai today. After being re-elected by the people of Gujarat, this is my 1st visit to Tamil Nadu & Chennai," reads Modi's tweet.
In an another tweet, the Gujarat CM said, "Today is 96th birth anniversary of legendary former Tamil Nadu CM & evergreen hero of Tamilians, Thiru MGR. I greet all his fans & followers."
Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran, who popularly known by his initials MGR, served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu successively for three terms. He had also made a niche for himself as a film actor, director and producer.
MGR had a reputation for philanthropism and was considered to be one of the greatest political leaders and actors of the state. MGR was honoured with Bharat Ratna.
Modi's visited Chennai at a time when Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa was in Kodanad. The Tamil Nadu CM was among the guests who had attended Modi's swearing-in ceremony in Gujarat. Modi, who maintains a good rapport with the AIADMK chief, also had attended her swearing-in ceremony after her party swept back to power in Assembly election in Tamil Nadu in 2011.
