Barcelona want £16m for David Villa

Barcelona, Jan 3: Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona are ready to accept bids of £16million for striker David Villa. Premier League giants are planning to sign the Spaniard on loan but the Catalans will not listen to short-term deals.

Villa, 31, has not been at his best since recovering from a broken leg suffered last season and manager Tito Vilanova has preferred striker Alexis Sanchez and winger Pedro Rodriguez on either flanks.

Tottenham are the latest club to join the race to sign Villa after Liverpool's offer was rejected recently, while Arsenal are also linked with the 31-year old striker who helped Spain win the 2010 FIFA World Cup and EURO 2008.

Chelsea also showed interest in the former Valencia striker but have now secured the signature of Demba Ba from Newcastle United.

Villa would be definitely seeking Champions League football which neither Liverpool or Tottenham are at the moment. However, Arsenal seem to the perfect club for the striker but Arsene Wenger won't risk spending £16m for a player above the age of 30

Villa, who is Spain's all-time leading goal-scorer with 53 goals, has made 17 appearances scoring five goals including games against Celtic, Spartak Moscow and Benfica in the UEFA Champions League.

During his time at Valencia between 2005 and 2011 Villa scored 128 times in 217 appearances and 40 goals in 96 games for Barcelona.
