Chennai, Dec 21: Playback singer Nithyasree Mahadevan's husband committed suicide on Thursday, Dec 20. During the investigation of the case, Chennai police seem to be confused over Mr Mahadevan's decision to end his life.
After questioning Mr Mahadevan's driver, police informed that depression could be the reason. According to sources, Mr Mahadevan was under treatment for depression in Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
The driver reportedly had claimed that the couple used to have fights frequently. Mr Mahadevan, according to the driver, was under massive depression since last five years.
However, Nithyasree in her statement to police overruled such reports saying that her husband was not depressed. The singer also rubbished reports about his treatment in any hospital. Nithyasree said that her husband was upset since his mother passed away. He was very close to his mother and could not bear the pain of her demise, Nithyasree reportedly told to police.
Mr Mahadevan committed suicide after jumping into the Adyar river from the Kotturpuram bridge. Police officials, who were the eyewitnesses, said, "He apparently asked the driver to stop his Honda City car and stepped out, talking on his mobile phone around 1 pm."
"People who saw him jump off the bridge into the river called the fire and rescue service," added the cops. He was declared brought dead when he was taken to a hospital.
Nithyasree, who was supposed to perform at Rama Rao Kalyana Mantap as part of annual margazhi festival in the city, broke down at the news. The couple is survived by two daughters.
