EPL: Top 5 transfer targets for Arsenal

London, Dec 18: Despite bringing in several players in the summer, Arsenal struggle to find their feet this season and have already achieved an unwanted record of their worst Premier League start in over 18 years. However, Arsene Wenger is determined to improve the squad in January with many targets emerging all over Europe. Here is a look at the Arsenal's top 5 transfer targets in January.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Schalke

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be available for a cut-price £6 million deal in January. The Gunners have watched the Dutch striker three times already and have also tried to sign him before. Huntelaar, 29, will be brought in as a replacement for Robin van Persie. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has sufficient funds to buy players when the transfer window re-opens. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the 29-year-old. The Dutch ace could also leave for a lucrative free transfer at the end of the season.

Pepe Reina - Liverpool

Arsenal are also monitoring the situation with Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina. The Gunners are willing to make £10 million bid for the Spaniard next month but could face a problem with his £110,000-a-week wages. Arsenal have struggled to maintain their top-four position this season while first-choice stopper Wojciech Szczesny missed the majority of the opening games through injury. Wenger is also eyeing a move for Swansea City keeper Michel Vorm.

Fernando Llorente - Athletic Bilbao

Top of January transfer list is Fernando Llorente, 27, whose contract expires at the end of the summer and is not willing to sign a new deal with his current club. Gunners could sign the striker for a bargain of only £8 million, same as Demba Ba and Huntelaar. But they face competition from Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla is urging his fellow countryman to join the North London club.

Demba Ba - Newcastle United

Newcastle United striker Demba Ba is ready to move on after praising Arsenal. The Magpies have lost hope to keep their star man who has £7.5 million release clause. The Senegal international is holding out his demand of £90,000-a-week and even if Newcastle agree to pay so much, Ba will not sign a contract extension at St James Park.

Wilfried Zaha - Crystal Palace

The £15m-rated winger is the hottest prospect from the English second division. Zaha, 20, recently won his first senior cap for England after his impressive show with Crystal Palace. Manchester United and Liverpool are also tracking the young winger while Arsenal will bid depending on the future of their own winger Theo Walcott, 23, who is yet to sign a contract extension.
