Anna demands for a strong Lokpal bill

New Delhi, Dec 13: Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has once again raised his voice for strong and effective Jan Lokpal bill. He has warned the Congress-led UPA government for a re-launch of his agitation, if the bill was not passed before 2014.

"If the central government does not bring Lokpal soon, I will go on Satyagraha again at the Ramlila ground in New Delhi," he said. The anti-graft activist said that after Lokpal, he plans to rally for a legislation to enact 'Right to Reject'.

"If the draft Lokpal Bill prepared by my team is approved in Parliament and implemented, at least 60 per cent corruption will get eradicated automatically. Rest of the corruption will get finished with time subsequently," he said.

He spoke about his demand on Jan Lokpal Bill, while addressing students of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith at Bharat Mata Mandir in Varanasi on Wednesday, Dec 12.

He was accompanied by former Army Chief VK Singh during his two-day visit to Varanasi. Hazare asked youth to join fight against corruption in the country.

"The youth can change our country for good. If the youth wants to bring change, nothing can stop them," he said. Hazare also said that at age of 26, he had come at a crossroad when he had made all plans to commit suicide but then changed his mind and began serving the nation.

"I had decided to commit suicide when I was 26 but changed my decision and decided to give my life to the country," he told the students gathered.

Hazare said he would travel across the country and address public meetings to garner support on Jan Lokpal bill. The first public meeting will be held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Jan 30, 2013, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
