Sonia kickstarts campaign in Gujarat, slams BJP govt

Vadodara, Dec 7: Congress President Sonia Gandhi took on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi while kickstarting her party's election campaign in Gujarat on Friday. Addressing a rally at Mandvi, she accused Modi of making false promises to the people of Gujarat.

Earlier on Thursday, Modi took potshots at Sonia ahead of her campaign in south Gujarat and Saurashtra. Modi said the Congress party leaders were rushing while preparing "Madam Soniaji's" campaign speech for they did not want to repeat the error of 2007 when the Congress top leadership called Modi as 'maut ka saudagar'.

The Gujarat CM mocked Congress leaders, saying the latter were shunting between Delhi and Gujarat six times a day while preparing Sonia's speech. According to Modi, the Congress leaders were worried that if any word had slipped out of her mouth during the campaign speech, he would finish them. He said the Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, were worried over the election result.

Modi also blamed the Congress for India's recent ouster from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He said, while referring to reports of the country's embarrassing suspension by the IOC, that it was the 'sins' of the Congress that led to such a situation.
