Patna, Sept 24: Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar is adamant. He wants Bihar to be granted special status. In order to press his demand, Bihar Chief Minister is embarking on a statewide roadshow on Monday, Sept 24. His roadshow has been christened as "Adhikar Yatra".

"Bihar ke 40 sansado ke bina Delhi main koi sarkar nahi banegi, yaad rakhiyega isko (Without Bihar's 40 MPs, no government can be formed at the Centre. Remember that)," said Kumar.

"Special status milne se Bihar ka bhala hoga, rozgaar badhega, paisa ayega... (Special status will be good for Bihar. It will create more employment opportunities and inject more money into the system)," he adds.

Kumar has also categorically stated that his party Janata Dal (United) will support any party in the centre, which will help him achieve his aim of turning Bihar into a "special" state.

Kumar has cited perennial problems such as flood and drought as the reason for his demand for special status.

His latest political stunt is seen by observers as a threat to NDA if Congress-led UPA agrees to give special status to Bihar. Currently, JD (U) is a constituent of NDA. Moreover, Kumar's Adhikar Yatra is seen as a great blow to his rival Lalu Prasad of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Adhikar Yatra is an attempt by the Chief Minister to make his demand a public movement. Earlier, he had expressed his demand in various public forums. He had also written several letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to grant Bihar the status of a special state.

Earlier in a message to the Centre, Kumar said that the special category status was a matter of "right" for Bihar and its people and not "begging for alms".

"The special category status demand is the right of people ... We are pursuing our rightful demand and not seeking the same as alms," he said.
