London, Sept 24: Manchester United came back from being a goal down against Liverpool after Robin van Persie's penalty in the second half. The Reds skipper Steven Gerrard put the hosts ahead but was cancelled out by United right-back Rafael.
In an emotion-charged match, Liverpool dominated the first 45 but struggled throughout the rest of the match. Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was controversially sent-off in a 50-50 challenge with Jonny Evans.
Arsenal fought their way back against champions Manchester City to earn a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium. City went ahead in the first half through Joleon Lescott's header from a corner. Gunners defender Laurent Koscielny lashed on a failed clearance from Lescott to level just 8 minutes from time. Both title contenders this season remain unbeaten so far.
Demba Ba's 19 minute strike handed Newcastle their second straight victory over Norwich City. Hatem Ben Arfa provided the assist to the Senegalese while Papiss Cisse missed a penalty, but the single goal was enough for Alan Pardew's men.
Tottenham survived a shock home defeat to London rivals Queens Park Rangers. The match ended 2-1 in Spurs favour at White Hart Lane. QPR striker Bobby Zamora put the visitors ahead in the first period but Spurs dominated the second half. Two goals were scored in the space of 90 seconds.
