Sanaa, Sept 13: Yemeni protesters, angry over a film deemed as offensive to Islam, on Thursday stormed the complex of the US embassy in Sanaa, defying efforts by riot police to hold them at bay, a source said. Protesters torched a number of diplomatic vehicle as security forces used water cannons and warning shots in a bid to drive them out.
Hundreds of demonstrators broke through the main entry of the compound in eastern Sanaa, shouting "We sacrifice ourselves for you, Messenger of God". They smashed windows of security offices outside the embassy also.
Protest also broke out in Egypt and Libya a couple of days ago over a film which had allegedly dishonoured Prophet Mohammad. In Libya, the protest had turned violent and led to the death of the US Ambassador to that country, Chris Stevens.
It was learnt that scuffles also broke out at the US embassy in Cairo where the protesters climed into the embassy and even torn down the US flag.
