Top Transfers on Deadline Day

Barclays Premier League: Top 10 Summer Transfers

1. Robin van Persie - Arsenal to Manchester United.

Top-scorer in the previous season, Manchester United paid £24 million for the Dutch international from rivals Arsenal. However, what the Red Devils actually need is a central defender and a midfielder. But with the absence of striker Wayne Rooney, manager Alex Ferguson has done good business after the 29-year-old's hat-trick against Southampton on Sunday.

2. Eden Hazard - Lille to Chelsea

European champions Chelsea splashed £32 million for the Belgian star. Hazard, famous for trickery and style is already a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge. The 21-year-old has more number of assists than any other player in the new campaign.

3. Javi Garcia - Benfica to Manchester City

Premier League champions Manchester City signed five players on deadline day with the biggest signing of them all being Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia for £16m. The highly rated Spaniard is a replacement for defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong but the 25-year-old can also operate in central defence.

4. Lukas Podolski - FC Koln to Arsenal

Arsene Wenger's long term target Lukas Podoski joined the Gunners for £11 million. The German left-winger already has over 100 caps for the national team. The 27-year-old has played in two World Cups, three European championships and all other major tournaments. Podolski scored Arsenal's first goal of the new campaign against Liverpool on Sunday.

5. Moussa Dembele - Fulham to Tottenham

Andre Villas-Boas wanted a replacement for playmaker Luka Modric who left White Hart Lane to join Real Madrid for £33 million. Spurs signed the Belgium international Dembele from rivals Fulham for £15 million. The 25-year-old was a target for Real Madrid, Manchester United and Liverpool.

6. Michu - Rayo Vallecano to Swansea City

An attacking midfielder who joined for £2 million, mostly under rated, could be the signing of the season after scoring four goals in three games for Michael Laudrup's side. The 26-year-old Spaniard is joint top-scorer in the Premier League.

7. Gaston Ramirez - Bologna to Southampton

Few expected him to join promoted side Southampton after being chased by top guns Liverpool and Arsenal. But the Saints broke their club record fee of £15 million to land the Uruguayan winger.

8. Andy Carroll - Liverpool to West Ham United

On loan from Merseyside to London, the £35 million Liverpool striker was ignored by Brendan Rodgers, who did not fit in his plan. Carroll was linked with a move to West Ham United to support Sam Allardyce's more direct play. The 23-year-old England international made an immediate impact during the Hammers 3-0 drubbing of Fulham.

9. Santi Cazorla - Malaga to Arsenal

Being in the generation of many world class Spanish players, Santi Cazorla was overlooked in the world of football. The playmaker was signed for £16.5 million by Arsene Wenger and has been the Gunners driving force this season. The 27-year-old scored the second goal in Arsenal's 2-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

10. Dimitar Berbatov - Manchester United to Fulham

From £30.5 million to £4 million, Fulham have pulled off one the biggest bargain's in the summer transfers by signing Manchester United outcast Dimitar Berbatov. The Red Devils record signing was ignored and left-out of the squad but the Bulgarian has still got to offer a lot. A lazy but creative striker, 31-year-old Berbatov is a major signing for Martin Jol.
