New Delhi, Jul 29: Veteran activist Anna Hazare started his indefinite fast on Sunday, ignoring advices from his team and doctors. He joined other members of his team who have been fasting at the Jantar Mantar since July 25. The 75-year-old, who is leading a fight against corruption in the country, said he was not concerned with the thin crowd at the venue and could continue his protest even with a few people around. Other members of Team Anna, however, were hoping that the number of supporters will only increase after the fasting kicked off officially.
Key member of Team Anna Arvind Kejriwal and others already started the hunger strike on July 25. Kejriwal also appealed to Anna not to join the fasting programme, keeping in mind the ageing man's health. He said India had lost people like Mahatma Gandhi and Jaiprakash Narayan prematurely and could not afford to find a similar fate descending on Anna.
Anna's ultimatum to the government to arrive at a decision on his demands ended on Saturday. He said he would fight for the Jan Lokpal Bill till his death. Meanwhile, Kejriwal slammed the media saying the latter did not have guts to highlight the failures of people like Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. All corrupt people were hoping for Anna's failure, he said.
