New Delhi, Jul 24: Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare and his team will arrive in Delhi on Tuesday to kick off their protest fast at Jantar Mantar starting Jul 25. The fast scheduled to start off from Jul 25 will coincide with the hectic preparations that will be on at the capital for the swearing-in ceremony of Pranab Mukherjee as the 13th President of India.
Anna Hazare will only lend moral support and will not take part in the indefinite fast due to ill health. According to Team Anna, the agitation will be led by a prominent member Arvind Kejriwal.
As per India Against Corruption (IAC) media coordinator Aswathi Muralidharan, "Anna Hazare will not fast as his health condition does not permit it, but he will share the stage with others who are fasting. He will arrive in Delhi at 2 pm on Tuesday."
She has been quoted as saying to agencies, "Hundreds of volunteers of India Against Corruption (IAC) are involved in the preparations for the Jul 25 fast, we have divided ourselves into various teams like crowd management, sanitation, health, media and guest management team and Anshankari team."
Anna will be escorted from the Delhi airport with a small rally and the IAC supporters are doing all they can to make the agitation a resounding success. The team has got permission to fast at Jantar Mantar till Aug 8, the same day the monsoon session of Parliament will begin.
On the massive plans for the fast, Muralidharan has been quoted as saying, "We have already received about 4,000 online registration from across the country, who are willing to fast with Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai. Thousands of people are expected to attend the agitation, we don't have any projection about the turnout. We can only say it would be huge as the fast will be at Jantar Mantar and more people can access. So the arrangements will be better than at the Ramlila agitation. We are working on the arrangements like setting up toilets and VIP enclosures."
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is also expected to join in the protest.
