Bangalore, Jun 17: Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee clearly stated that she will not support PA Sangma as a nominee for the upcoming presidential election. From her decision, it seems that the CM is indirectly backing UPA's choice Pranab Mukherjee.
Despite Mamata's announcement that she will support Abdul Kalam and not anyone else, many still feel that her decision ultimately would help Pranab Mukherjee.
The choice of Mamata Banerjee, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam clearly had stated that that he would not consider his nomination unless it came about by consensus. However, he promised that he will take final decision at "right moment".
NDA has not yet announced its decision but its allies - JD(U) and Akalis expressed that they are keen to support UPA's nominee. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena too refused to back Sangma for the post of President.
Now if Abdul Kalam refuses to contest in the poll for not getting consensus support, Mamata Banerjee's vociferous campaigning for Kalam would prove futile. The finance minister may ultimately get the advantage.
The West Bengal CM launched her official Facebook page for this purpose on Friday night and used the popular social networking site to air her views on why she roots for Kalam as President.
