New Delhi, Apr 13: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is known for her stiff stance on most issues and wields her iron-fist on matters that don’t comply to her ideology. The same fiery self resurfaced when Mamata had a Jadavpur University professor arrested for allegedly circulating "anti-Mamata Banerjee" cartoons on the Internet.
The arrest was made on Friday and the professor named Ambikesh Mahapatra is a teacher in the Chemistry Department of the Jadavpur University. He is believed to have been picked up by the police on Thursday night.
Section 66 of the Indian Penal Code has been slapped on the professor and charges of forwarding "derogatory images" of the West Bengal CM to nearly 65 recipients and mocking her government policies are in his name. Sources have claimed this as an unprecedented incident and that he will be produced before the Alipore court.
There are latest reports coming in that he was assaulted by Trinamool Congress activists for drawing the anti-Mamata cartoons.
