New Delhi, Mar 20: With Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee successful in dethroning Dinesh Trivedi from the post of Union Railway Minister, she is all set to elevate Trinamool MP Mukul Roy as the new Railway Minister. He will swear-in at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Tuesday.
Mukul Roy holds the additional responsibility as the Minister of state for Shipping. He is expected to reply to the debate on the Railway Budget in Parliament next week. Mamata had insisted that the new Railway Minister should reply to the Rail Budget debate.
After high-drama Trivedi had submitted his resignation on Sunday that was accepted by the PM, in a clear case of buckling to the TMC's demands. Mamata, too had a meeting with the PM that ultimately led to the UPA's consent to make Mukul Roy the new Minister.
Dinesh Trivedi had irked TMC chief Mamata Banerjee after he announced a marginal hike in passenger fares in this years Railway Budget. Calling it an anti-common man move, Mamata demanded that Trivedi be booted out immediately and another party man be elevated to that role.
Mukul Roy, a clear Mamata's favourite is the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress. First elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2006, he is also a non-executive director as a social worker for the United Bank of India.
