Indian Railways is like a cow, says Lalu

New Delhi, Mar 15: Former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday, Mar 14, said that the Indian Railways is like a cow that neither gives milk nor bears calves.

Slamming the hike in railway fares, Lalu Prasad Yadav said that "Indian Railways is the lifeline of the country. From being a surplus organisation during my term, it has now become a dry cow, which neither gives milk nor calf."

Praising his work during his tenure as a Railway Minister, Lalu added that he did not hike the railway fares although the railway surplus was over Rs 7,000 crore.

"The budget during my period brought big relief to the people. Even Mamata Banerjee accepted this," Lalu said.

Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday announced a hike in rail fares of Rs 12 over 300 km journey and ticket fares being raised by 3 paise/km for express trains,5 paise/km for sleeper class, 2 paise/km for second class, 30 paise/km for 1st AC and 10 paise/km for 3rd AC.
