Security has been beefed up in Mumbai, with at least 2,375 police officers and 20,000 policemen deployed at polling booths across the city to ensure smooth voting.
Around 2,000 home guards, personnel of the Rapid Action Force and State Reserve Police Force have been deployed at strategic locations.
Meanwhile, it will be a tough task for the Congress-NCP alliance to swipe out Shiv Sena-BJP combine, from the civic polls, who have been ruling the roost for the past 16 years in Mumbai.
