UP Polls: Tensions begin; 'red alert' in first two phases

Lucknow, Feb 6: With the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections ahead, out of the 114 constituencies, 41 are red alert in the first two phases.

According to the Association for Democratic reforms' analysis, around 36 per cent of the constituencies are red alert ones.

Three or more candidates have been charged with criminal records in the 41 red alert constituencies.

According to the analysis, all the candidates of Mehdawal constituency in Sant Kabir Nagar district have declared criminal cases in their affidavits.

The candidates include from political the parties - Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, Samajwadi Party, Peace Party, Janata Dal - United.

Meanwhile, 21 candidates from Kushi Nagar District have been found with criminal cases in their affidavits, which have been submitted to the Election Commission. Even Medhawa has six such candidates with Katra Bazar and Padrauna having five each.
