Rupee up 31 paise against dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Jan 27: The rupee strengthened by 31 paise to trade at fresh 10-week high of 49.77 against the dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in early trade on Friday, supported by continued foreign fund inflows.

Forex dealers said consistent dollar inflows and euro's gains against the US currency overseas supported the rupee. The rupee had ended flat at 50.08/09 against the dollar on Wednesday.

The forex market was closed yesterday. Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE Sensex shot up by 176.39 points, or 1.03 per cent, to 17,253.57 in early trade today.

Silver bounces back, up by Rs 3100 on brisk buying support

New Delhi, Jan 24: Silver staged a strong recovery by jumping Rs 3,100 to Rs 55,300 per kg on Tuesday, on brisk buying by stockists and coin makers for the marriage season amid increased offtake by industrial units. However, gold turned weak after two day's rise and shed Rs 30 to Rs 27,930 per 10 grams, owing to slackened demand at prevailing higher levels.
