Melbourne, Jan 27: Australian PM Julia Gillard was frightened by ingenuous agitators on Thursday, Jan 26 as she lurched through the raged crowd with the help of police squad, leaving behind one of her shoes.
Though PM Gillard was not the target of the crowd, she was rushed to her car by a security guard wrapping his arms around her as he was giving a cover of safety.
It all started with Opposition Leader Tony Abbot's comments on Aboriginal tent. Following his alleged 'racist' remarks, group of protesters thronged outside Canberra restaurant, where in both Giliard and Abbot were present at an award function on Australia Day.
Security guards rushed both the politicians to their cars and safely whisked away from the scene as they realized that the situation had gone out of control.
Abbot's advice to 'move on' from the politics of the Tent Embassy offended scores, which marked 40th anniversary on Thursday.
The Aboriginal Tent Embassy is a controversial semi-permanent assemblage claiming to represent the political rights of Australian Aborigines. It is made of a group of activists, signs and tents that reside on the lawn of Old Parliament House in Canberra, the Australian capital. It is not considered an official embassy by the Australian Government.
Later, going through the wrath of Aboriginal protestors, Abbot asked people to revisit his quotes on the Tent Embassy that established outside Old Parliament House 40 years ago. He articulated that it was unfortunate he had been "verballed'' by some protesters.
Amid the ragging issue, Gillard's missing shoe went on for auction on eBay website. Interestingly it recorded a steam of good bids within few minutes as it went up for sale. The shoe was put on a website for biding at 1.PM with starting price of $148 and by 1.24 PM the auction reached over $2000.
