Compromise reached over UID project: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jan 27: A compromise has been reached over the Unique Identification Number (UID) project by the Planning Commission and the Home Ministry, said Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday, Jan 27.

He further said the National Population Register (NPR) and the UIDAI will bear no duplication of work. The Planning Commission and the Home Ministry have been at loggerheads over the security issue on the UIDAI project.

Talking about the biometric data, Chidambaram said that a single authority will collect it. The collection of biometric data had also sparked controversy.

He said that the use of Aadhar number will also begin soon.

Home Ministry inflicts blow for UID; calls data unreliable

New Delhi, Jan 20: With Nandan Nilekani's Unique Identification (UID) project hitting a roadblock, the row between UID Chairperson Nilekani and Home Minister P Chidambaram has gone from bad to worse. It has been reported that the Home Ministry has written to the Cabinet Secretary seeking clarification on who will do the enrollment. New Delhi, Nov 18: Looks like the much hyped Unique Identification project had to face a fall from glory when Union Home Minister P Chidambaram commented that the biometric census done for the same did not pass the security criteria.
