Sacked BSP minister given ticket by SP

Lucknow, Jan 25: Samajwadi Party on Wednesday named Rajpal Tyagi, who was sacked by BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati from the state cabinet last month, as its candidate from the Muradnagar constituency in Ghaziabad.

Tyagi was named as the party nominee for Muradnagar in place of Dishant Tyagi by state President Akhilesh Yadav, SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said here.

Tyagi, who held charge of Agriculture, Education and Research Minister, was sacked on December 25, 2011, along with three others, including Higher Education Minister Rakeshdhar Tripathi, Minister of State for Backward Welfare Awadhesh Kumar Verma and Minister of State for Home guards Hari Om.

Similarly, Khwaja Haleem has been given ticket for Charra seat in Aligarh district in place of Rakesh Singh, Chaudhary said.

RSS threatens to take action against newspapers

Lucknow, Jan 23: The RSS on Monday threatened to take action against newspapers that published reports that the Sangh would support BSP nominees wherever BJP candidates were not strong. 'Sah-prant sanghchalak' of Avadh Prant Prabhunarian Srivastava in a press release said RSS was contemplating action against newspapers which had published the report. "Some papers had published misleading reports that RSS would support BSP candidates at those places where BJP nominees were not strong enough in the coming assembly elections," he said.....

Smaller parties make little impact in UP

Lucknow, Jan 23: Smaller caste-based political parties, which are considered as potential spoilers, have failed to make a strong impact on political equations in Uttar Pradesh.
