New Delhi, Jan 21: Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary said that he should apologise for the comments he made at the Bundelkhand rally.
Terming the comments made by the Congress 'derogatory language', she said that the BJP would not counter attack or respond back to the Congress.
"I have asked my party not to respond to the derogatory language used by Congress leaders for me. Rahul Gandhi should apologise for the words used by him. Rahul is lucky to be born in a rich and powerful Nehru-Gandhi family, but I was born in a poor family and have worked hard and I'm a patriot. Using derogatory language for me is insulting the poor," she said.
Rahul Gandhi in an election rally in Charkhari, Bundelkhand on Thursday, Jan 19 criticised Uma Bharti for neglecting backward region.
"A BJP leader (Uma Bharti) has come from Madhya Pradesh. Where was she when farmers were dying in Bundelkhand? Now that elections are here she has come to you," said Rahul.
"I appeal to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress to take up the issues of poverty, corruption in election instead of using derogatory language for me," Uma Bharati said.
"Action should be taken against corrupt leaders. When there were corruption charges against Yeddyurappa, no BJP leader made any comments in support of Yeddyurappa," she said talking on the issue of corruption.
She further said that all the row created on author Salman Rushdie was because of the upcoming UP elections.
"Salman Rushdie is being made an issue because of the UP elections. A person has the right to express himself till his expressions do not let down another person. The row over Rushdie is being guided by the the UP elections," she said.
