Vodafone defeats govt, wins Income Tax case in SC

New Delhi, Jan 20: In a major setback to the government, Vodafone won the Income Tax dispute case in the Supreme Court on Friday, Jan 20. The apex court asked the government to return the money to the company with 4 percent interest.

The court also directed tax department to return Rs 2,500 crore deposited by Vodafone in compliance of its interim order within two months.

The decision of the Supreme Court seems to have bashed the judgment of the Bombay High Court as it (Bombay HC) had asked Vodafone International Holding to pay income tax of Rs 11,000 crore on a deal ab.

Idea, Airtel, Vodafone join hands to offer 3G across India

Mumbai, Jul 15: Three major telecom service providers in India, Airtel, Vodafone and Idea, have decided to join hands to offer low-cost 3G services across the country. According to the deal, these companies will use each other's network for 3G services.

The inter and intra-circle roaming arrangements between these companies will help them to offer seamless 3G services to their customers. Also, it will equip each company to start 3G services in areas where they have not built their own 3G network. Read More

Retailers not to sell Airtel, Aircel, Vodofone prepaid cards

Chennai, July 11: Faced with mounting complaints from mobile customers about cellular operators allegedly charging them for unwanted value added services, over 60,000 retailers in Tamil Nadu have decided not to sell new pre-paid SIM cards of Airtel, Aircel and Vodafone from July 13.

The retailers, who are members of Tamil Nadu Cellular Retailers' Federation, were being flooded with complaints from agitated customers that their pre-paid accounts were being charged without their knowledge for value added services such as caller tunes,.....
