First arrest in Jarawa tribes naked dance video case

Jarawa tribals
New Delhi, Jan 19: Andaman and Nicobar police on Thursday, Jan 19 arrested two persons over the Jarawa tribals naked dance video. One of them was a taxi driver - Guddu and the other one was a gift shop owner - Rajesh Vyas.

The two arrested men have been accused of taking money to arrange a visit to the protected land for Jarawas and video recording of the primitive and protected tribe in the island.

Earlier it was reported that a major lead has been recovered regarding the semi-naked dance of women belong to the tribals. Police along with Defence establishment found that the video was shot in September-October 2008 and it also has been claimed that the information about the person, who was featured in the video, also has been figured out.

According to sources, police also sought help from an organisation - Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti (AAJVS) who helped the cops to identify the women who were lured to dance semi-naked in front of the tourists.

The Jarawas are believed to be the descendants of early humans to move out of Africa and chose to remain isolated in their habitat in the Andaman Islands.

In 2002, the Supreme Court ordered that the Andaman Trunk Road be closed down, however in 2004, it recommended that the road be opened with limited traffic. The issue has remained unresolved till now.

However, the arrested duo allegedly took tourists to different places to Middle Strait through Andaman Trunk Road which passes through the land of Jarawas.
