Rupee up 25 paise Vs dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Jan 10: The rupee appreciated by 25 paise to 52.26 per dollar in early trade today, as the US currency weakened against euro and other major currencies overseas. Dealers said firm domestic equity markets also supported the local unit.

The rupee had gained 20 paise to close at nearly three- week high of 52.51/52 per dollar yesterday on the Interbank Foreign Exchange sustained selling of the US currency by exporters. Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose by 151.58 points, or 0.96 per cent, to 15,966.30 in opening trade today.

Oil down in Asian trade

Singapore, Jan 9: Oil prices were down in Asian trade today on concerns the European debt crisis could worsen, analysts said, amid tensions over Iran's threat to block a vital oil shipping lane.New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate for delivery in February was down 49 cents to $101.07 in morning trade, while Brent North Sea crude for February delivery declined 11 cents to $112.95."Pressures concerning the debt situation in Europe is offsetting the bullish factor of geopolitical tension in West Asia," said Victor.....

Gold snaps 4-day rally, down Rs 145; silver shed Rs 600

New Delhi, Jan 7: Snapping a four-day gaining streak, gold prices fell by Rs 145 to Rs 28,120 per 10 grams in the national capital today on stockists selling at existing higher levels amid a weak trend in overseas markets.Silver also moved down by Rs 600 to Rs 51,850 per kg on reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers.Trading sentiment turned bearish after gold fell in global markets, as the dollar’s surge eroded demand for the precious metal as an alternative asset.Gold in.....
