Rupee up 6 paise against dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Jan 5: The rupee gained 6 paise to trade at Rs 52.89 against the dollar today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange as the US currency weakened in the overseas markets. Dealers said dollar selling by exporters boosted the rupee sentiment.

.The rupee had gained 26 paise to close at more than a week's high of Rs 52.95/96 against the dollar yesterday following sustained dollar selling by exporters amid signs of fresh capital inflows. Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose by 70.88 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 15,953.52 in opening trade today.

Bangalore, Jan 2: Expressing concern over the ill-treatment meted out to an Indian diplomat in Shanghai, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna on Monday said the trade-related dispute involving two Indian traders in China should be settled as per law."It is a trade-related dispute, so our concern is no harm should be done to the Indian nationals," Krishna told reporters here reacting to the incident over which India has lodged its protest to Chinese authorities.Krishna said he had instructed the Indian mission in Beijing to.....

Gold steady at Rs 27,640, silver gains Rs 250

New Delhi, Jan 2: The bullion market commenced the new year on a promising note as silver prices rose by 250 to Rs 51,400 per kg today on fresh buying by stockists, while gold held steady at Rs 27,640 on restricted buying activity. Traders said fresh buying by stockists on pick-up in demand among jewellers and coins makers mainly led to rise in silver prices on the first trading day of 2012. RBI governor hints at soft monetary policy

New Delhi, Jan 2: Concerned over the declining growth, Reserve Bank Governor D Subbarao has indicated that the central bank could reverse the tight monetary stance adopted by it since March 2010 to tame inflation. "From here on we could expect reversal of monetary tightening," Subbarao told the BBC in an interview. The RBI Governor, however, added it was "difficult to say when that will take place and in what shape it will roll out". The central bank is scheduled to announce the monetary.....
