Rupee down by 17 paise against dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Jan 2: The rupee fell by 17 paise to Rs 53.27 per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today on increased demand for the US currency from importers. However, firm equity markets capped the rupee losses.

Dealers said increased demand for the dollar from importers and concerns over the government's widening fiscal deficit mainly weighed on the rupee sentiment.

The rupee had shed 3 paise to close at Rs 53.10/11 against the US dollar in the previous session. In 2011, the rupee crashed by 18.79 per cent. The BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by 69.12 points, or 0.45 per cent, to 15,524.04 in opening trade today.

UP district bans poultry imports from Nepal

Bahraich, Dec 31: The Bahraich district administration has banned import of poultry products from Nepal in the wake of bird flu outbreak in that country.A six-month ban on import of poultry products from Nepal has been imposed in view of the outbreak of bird flu in the neighbouring country, District Magistrate Ms Pinki Jowal said.An alert has also been sounded on the Indo-Nepal border, she said, adding that orders have been issued to maintain a vigil in the forest as well as residential.....

Silver up by Rs 1,200, gold by Rs 70 on fresh buying

New Delhi, Dec 30: Both the precious metals, silver and gold, bounced back today on fresh buying by stockists and jewellers at existing lower levels amid a firming global trend. Rupee loses 22 paise vs dollar in early trade

Mumbai, Dec 28: The Indian rupee fell by 22 paise to Rs 53.24 per US dollar in early trade today on persistent month-end demand for the American currency from importers on the back of a higher dollar in overseas markets. The rupee resumed lower at Rs 53.10/11 per dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange, as against its previous close of Rs 53.02/03 per dollar, and dropped further to Rs 53.24 per dollar before quoting at Rs 53.20/21 per dollar at 1030 hours......
