Raja, Kalmadi fete New Year in Tihar; Paneer, Pulao served

New Delhi, Jan 2: There are almost 12,000 prisoners lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail currently, but only two special people were bestowed with special treatment on the New Year eve of 2012. The two are none other than A Raja and Suresh Kalmadi.

According to sources from Tihar jail, Raja and Kalmadi were allowed to use telephone in jail to wish their family members a Happy New Year. Even the special prisoners were served delicious food on the day.

Parathas, pulao, vegetable curry with paneer, kheer, halwa, puri and special sweets from Tihar officials were served to the two VIP prisoners.

Officials said only "well-behaved" Tihar prisoners were allowed to greet their family members and friends on the New Year eve and it seems that the only "well behaved-prisoners" in Tihar jail were - Kalmadi and Raja. [Major events, top news of 2011]

Raja - the former Telecom Minister was arrested and was sent to Tihar in Feb 2011 over his alleged role in 2G spectrum scam.

Meanwhile Kalmadi - Congress MP from Pune and the sacked chief of Organising Committee (OC) of Commonwealth Games 2010 (CWG 2010) was put in the jail in Apr 2011 over his alleged involvement in irregularities believed to have been done during the Games which was organised for the first time in India.

2G: Raja slams CBI; accuses of fudging witness against him

New Delhi, Dec 23: With former Telecom Minister A Raja opening his defence in the 2G spectrum scam case, he used the opportunity to slam the CBI for using his ex-aide Aseervatham Achary as a "false witness" to depose against him. Sushil Kumar, a senior advocate defending Raja stated, "He is a created false witness and this is my ultimate case."Achary had earlier spilled the beans on Raja in court saying that Raja was in close connection with corporate honchos and their companies.....

2G: Former Telecom Minister A Raja opens defence

New Delhi, Dec 22: After a month of protest against commencement of trial, former Telecom Minister A Raja today opened his defence with the cross-examination of key CBI witness Aseervatham Achary, who was his former additional private secretary. Raja called off his protest in the wake of CBI filing its third charge sheet on December 12 against Essar and Loop and their promoters. Achary's cross-examination was disrupted for a while after he told the judge about threat to his life from a man sitting.....
