Steady trend prevails in Chennai foodgrains market

Chennai, Dec 31: The prices of thoor dal and urad dal declined while that of other commodities remained unchanged in the wholesale foodgrains market here during the week under review.

Opening the week at Rs 5,700, an increase of Rs 100 Per quinal over the previous close, urad dal, however, failed to hold on to the gain as it slipped to Rs 5,500 on Wednesday and settled the week at the same rate.

Thoordal opened weak at Rs.6,000 against its previous close of Rs.6,100 and traded at the same level throughout the week.
Moong dal (Rs.6,400) gram dal (Rs.4,000) sugar (Rs.2,850) wheat (Rs.1,750), Maida (Rs.1,550) and sooji (90kg)(Rs.1,850) remained unchanged at the previous week closing rates.

Can't speculate on rate cuts,will ensure enough liquidity: RBI

Mumbai, Dec 16: Reserve Bank Governor D Subbarao today (Dec 16) said he cannot speculate on when he will start cutting policy rates, but assured that the central bank will ensure that there is enough liquidity in the system by conducting open market operations. "We have taken into account the inflation situation and also growth moderation. For the moment, we have kept the policy rates steady. However, we will manage liquidity through market operations (but) I cannot speculate when we might start cutting rates,".....

RBI retains interest rates, indicates cut from now on

Mumbai, Dec 16: Concerned over economic slowdown, the Reserve Bank today (Dec 16) kept interest rates unchanged and indicated that it could cut key policy rates from now onwards to arrest falling growth while keeping a close vigil on inflation."While inflation remains on its projected trajectory, downside risks to growth have clearly increased... Further rates hike may not be warranted," the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in it its mid-quarter review of monetary policy.The economic growth has come down to 6.9 per cent.....
