Pak loses appeal to host Davis Cup tie in Lahore

Pakistan Flag
Karachi, Dec 31: Pakistan has lost an appeal to host its Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group two tie against Lebanon in Lahore in 2012.

The International Tennis Federation rejected the appeal by the Pakistan Tennis Federation insisting that while it realised the need to host international tennis ties in Karachi but the present security situation was still not feasible enough for foreign teams.

"We are disappointed at our appeal being rejected but we have to accept the decision and we will be playing the Davis Cup tie against Lebanon in Lebanon," PTF secretary Mumtaz Yousuf said.

In the last two and half years, Pakistan has lost hosting rights for Davis Cup ties against Oman, Philippines, Hong Kong and New Zealand because of the security situation in the country.

Recently, the ITF also decided to shift the Davis Cup qualifying tie against Lebanon from Lahore because its security consultants were not convinced.

"Lebanon was willing to play in Lahore but the ITF felt otherwise. But the ITF has told us in future our home ties will only be shifted in extreme conditions and even than we will get the right to decide on the venue where the tie will be played abroad," Yousuf said.
