Shame on sportsmen, 6 Indian Athletes banned for doping

New Delhi, Dec 23: Taking a deadly decision, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on Friday, Dec 23 banned six Indian athletes as they failed the dope test. The six athletes including Ashwini Akkunji have been banned for one year.

Ashwini had won gold for India in Asian Games. All the athletes had qualified for the upcoming London Olympics. The other athletes are - Mandeep Kaur, Taina Marry Thomas, Juana Murmu.

However, advocates of the accused, Anish Dayal claimed that all athletes still have hope for the upcoming Olympics 2012 as the ban, which has been imposed on them, will end in Jun 2012.

The time period of the one-year-ban is from Jun 2011 to Jun 2012. The accused are the participants of women's 400 metres relay team.

New Delhi, Dec 16: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and legendary hockey player Dhyan Chand are now eligible for the country's highest civilian honour - Bharat Ratna as the government of India has changed the eligibility criteria for a person to get the most coveted award. The move came after the Prime Minister's Office accepted the Home and Sports Ministries recommendation of broad basing the Bharat Ratna category. Women's boxing to make debut at Commonwealth Games

Ukraine: Female activists strip to protest Euro 2012

Keiv (Ukraine) , Dec 3: Five activists from Ukraine's Femen women's right group staged a strip demonstration at Keiv's Olympic Stadium to protest against Uefa for encouraging the legalisation of prostitution during the 2012 European Championship, which kicks off in June, 2012.

Femen spokeswoman Inna Shevchenko said that UEFA is "trying to influence our government" to legalize prostitution during the June 8-July 1 tournament. UEFA is making the draw on Friday (Dec 9).
