Kapil Sibal to meet Internet giants on online content

Kapil Sibal
New Delhi, Dec 15: Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal is expected to meet internet firms, Facebook and Google in Delhi after he asked social media to regulate online content.

Sibal in the meeting will devise content guidelines for social networking sites. The Union Minister has been meeting top internet companies over the past six months in a bid to regulate online content which yielded no results.

Sibal on Dec 6 had asked Internet firms to screen derogatory and defamatory contents regarding religious figures and political leaders asking them a way to ensure that these materials are not carried, as this could hurt the religious sentiments of people and were even viewed as insulting and obscene.

"We will evolve guidelines. Give us a little time. We do not want to stop anyone, but we cannot allow this type of content," Sibal had said.
