Footballers clean stadium ahead of Ind-WI ODI for Rs 2.75

Football
Indore, Nov 30: A group of aspiring footballers from Indore were forced to clean the stadium seats ahead of India-West Indies ODI that is scheduled to be held on Dec 8.

Members of Anand XI Football Club were roped in to clean Holkar Cricket Stadium just to meet their ends to buy their football kits to pursue their dreams and passion for the sport.

The footballers were paid Rs 2.75 for each seat they clean in the stadium.

The captain of Sanjay Nidhan, captain of Anand XI vented out his frustration at the Madhya Pradesh government for reducing them to take up such menial jobs.

"Football is one of the most neglected games. We are asked not to pursue it as a career option. There are many talented players here...Football needs hard work for which a good diet is required which is possible with money. I don't understand why the state government, despite promoting various games, neglects football," he said.

This highlights the serious obstacle in the progress of other sports in the country, which are still relegated to a secondary position, while cricket is considered to be an intrinsic part of the culture.
